PEBC: What You Need to Know: DPP-4 Inhibitors

Examples: Sitagliptin, Saxagliptin, Alogliptin, Linagliptin

Dosing:

-once daily (split into twice daily when combined with metformin)

-with or without food

-reduce dose in kidney impairment


Adverse Effects:

-weight neutral

-headache, nausea

-altered bowel movements (diarrhea or constipation)

-increased infection risk

-nasopharyngitis

-rare: joint pain

-rare: pancreatitis

-saxagliptin: may induce heart failure


Drug Interactions:

-alogliptin and sitagliptin have minimal

-linagliptin and saxagliptin may be affected by CYP3A4 system
